CHOOSING A CHAIN
Some of our chains are made to be worn on their own, and others to carry a pendant. They range from fine, barely-there links to heavier curb and belcher styles with more presence. All solid gold.
CHOOSING A PENDANT
A diamond, held close in a smooth bezel or fine claws, in the cut you are drawn to: round, oval, pear or emerald. Or a pearl, easy with everything from a shirt to an evening dress. Some pendants come on a chain and others on their own, so you can choose the length and weight to suit.
FINDING YOUR LENGTH
Length decides how a necklace sits, and it is worth getting right. Around 40 to 45cm falls at the base of the neck, resting just on the collarbone, which flatters most necklines and is the length most people want for something they will wear every day. Around 50cm sits lower on the chest, and it is the easiest length to layer over a shorter chain. Longer than that begins to drape over clothing. If you are choosing a single everyday necklace and are not sure, 40 to 45cm is the safe choice.
HOW TO LAYER
Layering just means wearing a few necklaces of different lengths at once. The simplest version is two: a shorter chain around 40cm and a longer one around 50cm, with a pendant on one of them. A diamond pendant over a fine chain keeps things understated, while adding a tennis necklace brings in a line of light for something dressier. The thing that makes layering work is spacing. Keep the lengths a few centimetres apart so each sits on its own rather than tangling, and know that mixing yellow, white and rose gold together looks intentional rather than mismatched.
SOLID GOLD, STERLING SILVER AND PLATINUM
Everything here is solid metal, not plated, so it keeps its colour and lasts. We price it fairly, without a showroom markup.
CARING FOR YOUR NECKLACES
Solid gold needs very little. Wipe it now and then with a soft cloth, and take it off before swimming or heavy cleaning, since chlorine and household chemicals dull gold over time. Store chains flat or hung so they do not knot together. Pearls ask for a little more: put them on after perfume and take them off first, and keep them away from harder pieces.
WHAT LENGTH GOLD NECKLACE SHOULD I CHOOSE?
Around 40 to 45cm sits at the collarbone and suits most people and most necklines. Around 50cm sits lower and layers well over a shorter chain. For one everyday necklace, 40 to 45cm is the safe choice.
IS SOLID GOLD BETTER THAN GOLD PLATED?
For a piece you want to keep, yes. Gold plating is a thin layer over a base metal that wears through in time, especially at the clasp. Solid gold is gold throughout, so it holds its colour and lasts a lifetime.
CAN I BUY A PENDANT AND CHAIN SEPARATELY?
Often, yes. Some pendants come on a chain, and others are sold on their own, so you can choose the chain length and weight that suits you and pair it with the pendant you love.
CAN YOU WEAR A DIAMOND PENDANT EVERY DAY?
Yes. Held in a bezel or secure claws, a diamond pendant sits close and safe, made to be worn rather than put away.
HOW DO I CARE FOR A PEARL NECKLACE?
Let it go on last, after perfume and cosmetics, and take it off first. Wipe it gently with a soft cloth, and keep it apart from harder pieces. Cared for this way, pearls last generations.
